Liliana Herrera (Jean)
Liliana Herrera grew up in a musical family in Calexico, California, where she and her siblings were, as she puts it, "the Mexican VanTrapps," or to many others, “the Latino Partridge Family”.
Blessed with a buoyant mezzo-soprano voice, she's a gifted interpreter of songs in many idioms, from boleros to the blues, from Earth Angel to Angel Eyes. She gigs with her own group; Los Disidentes (The Dissidents), and in Santero, an Afro-Latino-Hiphop fusion band. Since 1998, she has also collaborated with the San Francisco-based theatre group, Teatro Sabor. In 2002 she performed in Golden Gate Opera and Golden West Opera’s productions of Carmen.
She juggles her time as a parent organizer fighting for education equity as translator/interpreter, singer, voice-over actor, and a proud mother of eight year old, Paolo. To her performances, she brings years of experience, hard-won technique, a commitment to social justice and an irrepressible sense of fun.
